Christmas is such a special time in our house, so I wanted to incorporate it into our learning. So, I set out to find all the best hands-on activities for the holidays.
In this post, we’ll give you 8 different Christmas activities to do with your preschooler this year.

Christmas Activities for Preschoolers
Listed below are 8 of our favorite Christmas themed activities for preschoolers.
Christmas Counting
This activity works counting, number recognition, and fine motor skills that need to be developed for writing.
I found all of the supplies at our local Dollar Tree:
- Dry erase dice
- Silicone Christmas tray
- Christmas themed erasers
- Tongs
Have your child roll the dice, and whatever number they land on, they will place that many erasers into the silicone tray using their tongs.
This activity also works 1:1 correspondence, as your child will place one eraser into one of the slots in the tray.
Nativity Cards and Coloring Book
I found this printable activity from Jady Alvarez over at Teachers Pay Teachers.
These adorable nativity cards are such a neat way to teach children about the true meaning of Christmas. I printed and cut these out and then laminated them.
I also found some Safari Ltd. nativity figurines to go with. These are so detailed and my children just loving playing with them. They also pick out the corresponding character to go with the card, as we are telling the story.
The printable even comes with a mini nativity coloring book, which we have planned for today.
Box Logic
Work on logic and critical thinking with some holiday boxes.
Pick out a variety of shapes and sizes of boxes over at your local dollar store. Take off the lids and mix them up before presenting to your preschooler.
Your child will then have to figure out which lid goes with what box.
This also helps develop fine motor skills, as your child secures the lids.
A great activity for toddlers as well.
Winter Animals Writing
My kiddos are obsessed with animals, so of course we had to add in some winter themed mammals.
I actually found these cards at our local Dollar Tree as well, and they’ve been such a handy resource so far.
Let your child pick out a card and then write the letter that the animal name starts with in their sand writing tray. Shake it up and do it again!
Such a wonderful pre-writing activity that preschoolers just love.
You could also work on letter sounds as you do this activity, and for those advanced learners, you could skip ahead to pencil and paper.
Play Dough Fun
Play dough is a must-have in our preschool. There’s just so many ways to use it as a learning aid.
Lay out some play dough, Christmas cookie cutters, and rolling pins and let your child have a blast with this easy sensory play.
You could also have your child roll out different letters relating to Christmas, like “J for Jesus” or “C for Christmas.”
Foam Nativity Ornament
Can’t forget the crafts!
We received these foam nativity ornaments from our church, and I’m really looking forward to watching the kids make these.
These are just stickers, so even the really little ones can enjoy this as well (supervised, of course).
After their done creating, they can hang it on the Christmas tree for all to admire.
Coloring Pages and Stickers
Keep it simple with some Christmas themed coloring pages and stickers.
Do a quick Google search for “free Christmas coloring pages” or “free nativity coloring pages” and print some off for your preschooler to color.
Find some puffy stickers at your local arts and crafts store and let them place it on some loose paper or even their clothes.
Living Christmas Books
What would a Charlotte Mason preschool be without some quality living books?

The Donkey in the Living Room – This is a super fun way to count down the 9 days until Christmas and celebrate the true meaning of this special holiday. Wrap a new nativity character for the kids to open and read a new page each day. Great alternative to Elf on the Shelf.
The Jesus Storybook Bible – Of course you can’t forget the Bible. 😉 This Bible has short and entertaining stories, without being “dumbed down.”
Room for a Little One – The illustrations in this book are just absolutely stunning. A huge hit with my little ones.
Little Blue Truck’s Christmas – Christmas tree rhyming fun with the Little Blue Truck. The last page is flashy!

The holidays can be stressful enough with all the things you feel like you need to do. Now to add in homeschool activities?
Don’t stress mama. Just keep it simple. Read the Bible and some living books, checkout what your local Dollar Tree has to offer, and set up simple crafts, like stickers, coloring pages, and clever ornaments.
There are many, easy ways to sneak some learning in during this busy time.
Try to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and just enjoy the time with your little ones.
