Easter is a culturally rich holiday when Christians celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Since its beginning in 30 A.D., it has meant a great deal to many people and has been adopted by many more than just those who hold dear to the Christian religion.

Whether you’re religious or not, there are plenty of great books out there to read aloud to your kids on Easter. Listed below are 25 of the best Easter books for preschoolers

Christian Easter Books for Preschoolers

This board book uses colorful Easter eggs to tell the story of Easter. It is an excellent pick if your preschooler is learning their colors.

In this book, a little bunny goes in search of a friend. He goes through every season trying to end his lonely hunt. Will he find what he is looking for when he reaches Easter?

Tressa is a caring little girl who is worried about the robin she sees out her window. Her grandmother uses the mama robin to teach Tressa about the one who cares for the sparrows.

This book is a classic folktale that tells the Christmas, Crucifixion, and Easter story through the perspective of the trees. If you’d prefer an abridged version for your preschooler, there is a board book that is equally as good, called The Legend of the Three Trees.

This story is about a boy who loves his sister very much and how he finds out about the real story of Easter through the legend of the Easter egg.

Walk through a joyful Easter day with a charming little family, illustrated beautifully in the Precious Moments style. If you grew up with Precious Moments books and figurines, then this one might hit close to home. 

A perfect book to read to your little ones in the days leading up to Easter. Jesus’s resurrection is all about anticipation, and even though this board book has a serious message, it does not disappoint with its bright spring-like illustrations.

Liz Curtis Higgs is an award-winning Christian author and speaker. In this cute story about a farmer’s daughter named Maggie, we learn how the lily flower can teach us about the true story of Easter.

This book, The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross: The True Story of Why Jesus Died and Rose Again, is part of the series of “Tales That Tell the Truth”. It talks about why we have to have Easter to have eternal life. Stunning illustrations throughout.

There were so many emotions that first Easter morning and this sweet book in the Very Best Bible Stories series tells you all about it.

This board book story starts at Palm Sunday and goes through Easter morning, preaching the gospel to your little ones. It is a part of the Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible series and would be a good addition to your home library.

Our Daily Bread has been teaching people about Jesus since 1938, and this board book is no exception. It features a little bunny learning about God’s love.

What a great addition to the God Gave Us Series. This book is about a little polar bear cub and her father talking about why God gave us Easter and what it is really about.

Non-Religious Easter Books for Preschoolers

In this wonderful story, written in 1939, there is a little cottontail bunny who dreams of being the wisest and kindest, and swiftest bunny in order to be chosen as one of the five Easter bunnies. Can she achieve her dreams even after she becomes a mama bunny? How does she get the little gold shoes?

This story takes place on Easter. Katy and her brother, Carl, search for eggs all over Grandma’s house. Poor Katy can’t seem to find any eggs at all. Her hunt carries her into the attic. What will she find? This book was written in 1950 by Katherine Milhous and is still a classic today.

“We’re going on an egg hunt. We’re going to find them all. We’re REALLY excited. Hooray for Easter Day!” This book will have your preschooler cheering along as they go on an egg hunt, lifting the flaps to find all the eggs with their bunny friends.

This book is sure to inspire with its beautiful art by Patricia Polacco. It is a Russian tale of a Babushka who takes in a goose right before the Easter festival. The goose, Renchenka, accidentally ruins all the painted eggs for the festival. What will Babushka do now? What will happen to Renchenka?

Hoppi wants to make the very best Easter egg to impress the Easter bunny. It is a lot harder than he thought! He goes into the woods and finds a robin egg that needs his help. Will he still be able to make a pretty Easter egg in time?

A sweet rhyming story about some friends enjoying all the fun parts of Easter. They catch a glimpse of the Easter bunny and decide to go on an adventure, chasing him.

Could Easter be complete without a little bit of Peter Rabbit? Beatrix Potter’s illustrations jump off the page in this board book with pop-ups, pull tabs, and flaps within flaps. It is an Easter classic for sure.

If your preschooler is a fan of Biscuit books, then they will love this one. Everyone’s favorite dog goes on an Easter egg hunt that is complete with cute lift-the-flaps.

This story features colorfully rich illustrations of a little duck going on his Easter egg hunt for the most special egg of all; the golden egg. There are foil stamps and flaps throughout the book, as well as eggs of every color, making it a great book to teach or review color recognition.

Rabbit wakes up on Easter morning and goes on an Easter egg hunt. She helps all of her friends find eggs, but then she can’t seem to find one for herself. Your kids will love this story of how she ends up finding the best Easter egg of all.

This bright book has beautiful illustrations and fun lift-the-flaps, making it a great interactive choice for toddlers and younger preschoolers.

This classic book features beautiful watercolor illustrations drawn by the very talented Tasha Tudor. If you love beautiful old books, then this one is definitely for you. This sweet story does briefly mention Good Friday and Sunday School, but contains no other religious references and mostly focuses on the magic of springtime.
